Custom 1982 Yamaha XV920R by Classified Moto

Classified Moto was asked by Bob Ranew from North Carolina to build a bike inspired by the “Reciprocity” movie bike they built for director Sunny Zhao. The custom motorcycle by started life as a well kept 1982 Yamaha XV920R and then they performed there signature sportbike front end and rear end swap both from a late YZF R6-R front and R6-S rear model Yamaha’s. They fitted a huge 180mm tire on the rear and fitted a custom front sprocket/spacer to cope with the increased offset made by Maxum Machine. CM said “We stripped off many pounds of 1980′s-style funk from the nerdy looking cruiser, keeping it to a noticeably trim fighting weight.”  I love the short exhaust on the bike and the open rear end which is almost cafe racer style.

Classified Moto said “We opted for top mounted hooligan bars over clip-ons after a lot of waffling by all parties. In the end, we can’t imagine what could be better. When you ride this thing, it feels like some kind of experimental weapon, like G.I. Joe’s personal assault bike. It’s a romping, stomping, elbows-up kind of thing. Pure fun.”

I think the bike is amazing, simply things set this apart from a standard custom build like the gold folks and unfinished tank look. A simple paint job on the tank with a somewhat faded or worn Classified Moto logo works really well too. The bike has been photographed by Adam Ewing who has featured on Moto Verso before for a Bonneville photo shot so this is why the images from this bike are so cool.
